A President McCain would work across the political aisle. He's done it before, often angering fellow Republicans. And his character is unassailable. The selfless and courageous way he conducted himself during 51/2 years as a POW says much about the man.

He's made mistakes, such as the Keating scandal during the savings and loan crisis, but he's more than atoned for that error with his work on campaign-finance reform. That issue alone shows two other things about McCain: He'll go against his party if he thinks it's in the best interests of the country. And his word is good. He promised to stick with public financing of this year's campaign and did so.

Ask people to describe McCain and the first response often is, "He's honest." What you see is what you get. There are no mysterious associations to dance around. No 20-year attendance of a church whose pastor preached anti-American sermons. No serving on an education reform panel with a domestic terrorist. No financial support from a convicted felon. No ties to a group currently under investigation for possible voter-registration fraud.

And McCain didn't hire as a strategist David Axelrod, who helped lead Mayor John Street's race-baiting reelection campaign.

America needs an honest president with experience, common sense, sound temperament and good judgment in the Oval Office. Those qualities will make it easy for many to vote for McCain.

Has $63 Million Flowed from Foreign Sources?

Reports say, that unlike John McCain’s campaign, Obama won’t release the names of his smaller donors. (What's he hiding?)

The report spots Obama campaign donors iwith questionable anomalies, including outright violations of federal election laws. For example, Obama has numerous donors who have contributed well over the $4,600 federal election limit.

And more than 37,000 Obama donations appear to be conversions of foreign currency.
According to the analysis of the Obama campaign data before the latest figures were released, potential foreign currency donations could range anywhere from $12.8 million to a stunning $63 million in all. With the addition of $150 million raised in September, this amount could be much more.

When asked about excess contributions, Obama spokesman Ben LaBolt said that contributions already identified as excess had been returned and that those the campaign was just learning about -- either through news accounts or from the Federal Election Commission -- “will be returned.” Source

WHY IS ACORN BEING INVESTIGATED... AND IS THIS REALLY A BIG DEAL?
A group Barack Obama used to work for is committing voter-registration fraud in several states, ahead of the election. The group's voter-registration fraud is rampant, and authorities plan a nationwide sweep of ACORN offices to collect records.
~~ In Nevada, state officials say the fraudulent registrations included forms for the starting lineup of the Dallas Cowboys football team, including quarterback Tony Romo.
~~ In North Carolina, ACORN has registered a record number of new voters, many of them suspicious. Statewide, Democrats are doing better than the GOP in new converts — even in traditionally Republican counties.
~~ In Missouri, one ACORN registrant named Monica Rays showed up on no less than eight forms, all bearing the same signature.
Suspicious election officials sent letters to some 5,000 ACORN registrants in St. Louis, asking the letter recipients to contact them. Fewer than 40 reponded.
~~ In Kansas City, 15,000 registrations have been questioned, and last year four ACORN employees were indicted for fraud.
~~PLUS, ACORN officials have also been indicted in Wisconsin and Colorado. Investigations against others are active in Ohio, Florida, Pennsylvania and Tennessee.
~~ ACORN has also been registering convicted felons — including inmates — in Florida and other battleground states. ACORN boasts registering a record 1.5 million new voters so far this election.
What does all this have to do with Obama?
For starters, ACORN has endorsed Obama for president, AFTER he paid the group $800,000 to register new voters. Yet, his campaign failed to accurately report those payments. They were hidden in his FEC disclosure as payments to a front group called Citizen Services Inc. for "advance work."
What's more, Obama worked as executive director of ACORN's voter-registration arm, Project Vote, in 1992. Joined by two other community organizers on Chicago's South Side, Obama conducted the voter-registration drive that helped elect Carol Moseley-Braun to the Senate that year.
The next year, 1993, Obama joined the civil-rights law firm Davis Miner Barnhill & Galland, where he sued the state of Illinois on behalf of ACORN to implement the federal "Motor Voter" law, which the GOP governor at the time refused to do.
Then-Gov. Jim Edgar argued, that the Clinton law would invite voter fraud.
Obama downplays his ties to ACORN, and his campaign denies coordinating with ACORN to register voters.

Sally Bell viciously attacked

Sally Bell was viciously attacked by the Tulsa World editorial board
in their endorsement of Karen Keith. Here is some of what they had to say.

Sally Bell, the Republican, is a dangerous and angry person who has made a name for herself with one issue.

She believes her family was rooked when its aging amusement park was forced off the Tulsa County fairgrounds and, therefore, county government should be starved one day at a time.

In other words, she's running for spite.

Spite can carry you a long way. It has already carried Bell to a landslide victory over incumbent Commissioner Randy Miller, the frontman for the effort to evict Bell's Amusement Park.

What does Bell have to offer beyond memories of a roller coaster? Very little of substance and nothing of value. She has put forward a radical anti-tax plan that was designed to appeal to the masses, but, if implemented, would endanger basic county services.

It's a recipe for public embarrassment and stalled progress.

The good news is that an endorsement by the Tulsa World is the political kiss of death. We will be talking about this hatchet job Monday on the show.

O'REILLY: Now, I have supported the bailout because I believe if the government doesn't stabilize the economy now, foreign investment will pull out of America. Now you know how important foreign investment is to this country's health. So I don't like this bailout. I agree with you that the government is incompetent and corrupt in some areas. But I don't see any other choice at all but to do it.

GINGRICH: Well, let me give you two choices immediately. First, there's an accounting rule called mark to market. We were warned against doing it by the European Central Bank in 2004. Two economists — Chicago Bank Today came out and said if we would simply repeal it — this is an overreaction to Enron — if we would simply repeal it, they think 70 percent of the problem would go away. That's $500 billion of the bailout would disappear.
Second, I have no problem with the workout. We'll let you work out your bad debt. But I am deeply opposed and I will actively oppose any bill which has the Treasury buying bad paper because that's a bailout. That's not a workout.

Drown Out What I Can't Stand to Hear

We were married by a Catholic priest in the chapel at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois.

We had the reception at the NCO Club.

That was 25 years ago today.

This would have been our silver anniversary. Our kids would have thrown us a party, and family and friends would have come from far and wide. We would have posed for pictures that would have hung years from now in our grandchildren’s rooms.

But none of that is going to happen.

We divorced years ago. I don’t remember exactly how many. It was my fault. I crashed the plane. And now this day will pass in silence. We all will politely ignore the significance of the date. Our children will never get to throw that party, that picture will not hang in our grandchildren’s rooms.

It’s Humpty Dumpty.

And I write this because my dread of this day has made me think of the countless others who have or who will pass a similar sorrowful milestone. It’s hell when dreams die, when happily ever after isn’t how the story ends. It’s hell when it’s your fault, it’s worse when it’s not.

It’s one thing to throw away your own happiness, it’s another to rob someone else of theirs.

You think of stuff like that on days like this.

You think of what should have been and what cannot be, and you know what drives drunks to drink. Some nightmares you don’t wake up from. They are just the way it is.

And hell may trump that for duration, but not for intensity.

I may never have figured out how to love, but I sure do feel its absence. I’m not good at knowing I’m happy, but I’m keenly aware of being sad.

But this isn’t a maudlin introspection, a George Jones song written without meter or rhyme, it is a recognition that there’ve been a lot of people down this road, and that I’m sorry for them.

And if I could shout to all who follow behind, I would give warning, “Don’t come this way. This is the swamp. Don’t come this way.” Stay faithful, never quit, make it work. Simple, trite, and true. No other success can compensate for failure in the home, and no bandage can cover that wound.

I’ve gone on, whatever that means. I have a new wife, and more children, and I love them and am grateful for them. And consequently I can only be grateful for the circumstances that brought them to me. But it was a hard journey and a high price, and I expect to pay it for all eternity.

I am the third successive generation of my family to divorce, My grandparents, my parents and I. We each failed at the only thing that mattered. It has been nearly a hundred years since a silver anniversary has been celebrated in my family. What a horrific curse and a poisonous legacy. All I can do now is look to my children and pray that they are better than I.

I have a handicap of memory, and cannot remember many things. I need other people to remind me and tell me about events from the past. My former wife is who I ask when I have a question about my mother or grandmother, or even the people from my hometown. My current wife helps me remember more recent events. It is an odd series of black holes.

But this I can’t forget. This I am doomed to remember.

It’s Humpty Dumpty.

And that is all I will say about this. Today will be just another day. I will go to work and try to make the shows worthwhile. I need to go through some pictures for the stations’ websites, I need to get a haircut, I need to write a column for tomorrow. Maybe I’ll get in a run and maybe I’ll go pick some more apples for cider.

And I’ll ignore what today would have been.

I’ll turn up the volume of life to drown out what I can’t stand to hear.

According to OpenSecrets.org, Barack Obama was the second largest recipient of political contributions from recently bailed-out, quasi-government lenders Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

The first? Connecticut Senator Chris Dodd.

According to OpenSecrets.org, recently bailed out Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac gave $4.8 million to lawmakers - 57% to Democrats between - 1989 and 2008.

Chris Dodd took in $165,400.

Barack Obama raked in $126,349 -- nearly 6 times what his opponent, John McCain took from Fannie and Freddie.

It took McCain all 20 years to take in $21,550 in pork from F+F; an average of $1,078/yr.

Barack Obama swallowed up $126,349 in one fifth the time, for an average payout from F+F of $31,587/yr.

Since 1989, bankrupt Lehman Brothers's employees and political action committee have given $9.2 million to federal candidates, parties and political action committees, with 54 percent of that going to Democrats.

In the current Congress, 271 lawmakers have collected nearly $3 million since 1989, with 72 percent going to Democrats. Democratic presidential candidates and senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama top the list of all-time recipients for the company, collecting $410,000 and $395,600 respectively.

Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., a member of both the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee and the Senate Finance Committee, hauled in $181,450, while Sen. Chris Dodd, chair of the Senate banking committee, has collected $165,800.

What if the impossible happens and Obama loses the election? Among Democrats, expect a rash of rage, depression, angst and finger-pointing at the media.

It’s three a.m. on Oct. 31 and a frantic broker awakens you. He’s advising making substantial investments that day in the stocks of Lilly, Pfizer and other manufacturers of anti-depressants, as well as high-end booze, say Grey Goose vodka and Hillary Clinton’s whiskey of choice, Chivas Regal. The calculations buzzing through your head are not insignificant. Barack Obama holds a two-point lead over John McCain in the Gallup poll for the Nov. 4 presidential election, and that slender margin suggests—given the undeniable factor of racism when Americans retreat to the privacy of the ballot booth—that for the third straight time a Democratic candidate will be defeated. Your own preference in the contest is irrelevant: there’s money lying on the table and only a fool would ignore the market’s indications.

A month ago, as any honest Democrat will tell you, this scenario was nearly inconceivable. The Republicans had nominated an elderly and inarticulate candidate in McCain, who was marred not only by his association with George Bush, but distrusted by the critical conservative base as well. He was expected to choose an equally dull running mate—maybe Gov. Tim Pawlenty (who?), the robotic Mitt Romney, or even Sen. Joe Lieberman, the onetime Democrat who’s distrusted by both parties—and though Obama had tapped longtime Sen. Joe Biden, whose bouts with sometimes indelicate verbosity were well-known, that was of little concern. Obama’s campaign was a fund-raising juggernaut and the candidate promised to campaign in nearly every state, especially “red” ones, not only demonstrate to he’d be a president of “all the people” but also help Congressional Democrats expand their majorities. It was payback time for the “stolen” elections of 2000 and 2004 and the revenge promised to be rich indeed.

I was reasonably certain that Obama would win convincingly, and perhaps by a landslide. In fact, although favoring McCain, I’d resigned myself to at least four years of the charismatic Illinois one-term senator, despite the nervousness that he’d turn out to be a less pious Jimmy Carter or, a latter-day Adlai Stevenson. What the hell, it’s not as if the Republicans have distinguished themselves in the past four years, McCain included. Besides, one benefit of a turnover at the White House would be the resumption of political conversation with Democratic friends; too many personal and professional relationships have been fractured in the past eight years. When Obama wakes up on 11/5/08 and realizes he blew it he will have no one to blame but himself. It was his to lose. Had he picked Hillary he would have been unstoppable, but pride got in the way, he bought into his own messianic hype.

Tax records show that Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden and his wife gave an average of $369 a year to charity during the past decade.

Presidential nominee Barack Obama's campaign released10 years' worth of tax returns for Biden, the senator from Delaware, and his wife Jill, a community college instructor. The Bidens reported earning $319,853 last year, including $71,000 in royalties for his memoir, "Promises to Keep: On Life and Politics".

The Bidens reported giving $995 in charitable donations last year - about 0.3% of their income and the highest amount in the past decade. The low was $120 in 1999, about 0.1% of yearly income.

Harry Brubaker played by William Holden dies at the end of the movie along with two other soldiers attempting his rescue. The film ends with Admiral Tarrant receiving confirmation of Brubaker’s death. Alone and introspective, he verbally wonders where Brubaker and all the others under his command could have found the bravery to do what is asked from them. The movie ends with a famous quote: “Where do we get such men?”

Ohio firm owner gets 25 years in male sexual enhancement supplement fraud case
- In Cincinnati, a man convicted of defrauding customers seeking male sexual enhancement supplements has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.
Steve Warshak also was ordered to pay US$93,000 in fines for his convictions on 93 counts of conspiracy, fraud and money laundering.
His company, Berkeley Premium Nutraceuticals, and other defendants were ordered to forfeit more than $500 million.
U.S. District Judge S. Arthur Spiegel also sentenced Warshak's mother, Harriet Warshak, to two years in prison.
She was convicted of conspiracy and other charges.
The company's main product, Enzyte, which promises sexual enhancement, has ads featuring "Smiling Bob," a happy man with an exaggerated smile.

What VP Candidate would Sun Tzu Choose for McCain?
In Sun Tzu’s The Art of War, surprise has a very specific role. You use it at the right time to change momentum. Even when a standard move works, doing what is expected never changes momentum. For example, in the current presidential campaign, no attack on the opposition, no matter how effective, is going to change momentum because such attacks are expected. What kind of surprises could the candidates use? Well, McCain could come up with a surprising choice of VP candidate, which is why people are talking about the possible choice of Joe Lieberman. A Democrat on the Republican ticket would be surprising, but it also wouldn’t work because it violates the first rule of strategy that says that a team must share the same core philosophy and, beyond their agreement on national defense, McCain and Lieberman cannot agree. If surprise is the goal, McCain should choose Sarah Palin, the Republican governor of Alaska. She hasn’t gotten a lot of press, but what makes her so unusual is how attractive she is. This is a surprising image for any political candidate and even more so for a Republican. If I were McCain, I would announce this choice right before the Democrat convention so that all the Obama people could attack the choice of a beautify, intelligent, successful, woman (with more executive experience than either Obama, Biden or McCain combined) in front of all those Hillary supporters.

McCain wins big at Saddleback

The contrast was striking throughout each man’s one-hour time on stage. When Warren asked Obama, “What’s the most gut-wrenching decision you’ve ever had to make?” Obama answered that opposing the war in Iraq was “as tough a decision that I’ve had to make, not only because there were political consequences but also because Saddam Hussein was a bad person and there was no doubt he meant America ill.” But Obama was a state senator in Illinois when Congress authorized the president to use force in Iraq. He didn’t have to make a decision on the war. That fact was a recurring issue in the Democratic primaries, when candidates Hillary Clinton, Joseph Biden, Christopher Dodd, and John Edwards argued that they, as senators, had to make a choice Obama didn’t have to make. And now he says it’s his toughest call.

When McCain got the question, he was able to tell an old story with a sense of gravity and poignancy that he seldom shows in public. He described his time as a prisoner of war, when he was offered a chance for early release because his father was a top naval officer. “I was in rather bad physical shape,” McCain told Warren, but “we had a code of conduct that said you only leave by order of capture.” So McCain refused to go. He made the telling even more forceful when he added that, “in the spirit of full disclosure, I’m very happy I didn’t know the war was going to last for another three years or so.” In one moment, he showed a sense of pride and a hint of regret, too; he came across as a man who did the right thing but not without the temptation to take an easy out. In any event, the message was very clear: John McCain has had to make bigger, more momentous decisions in his life than has Barack Obama.

And here is my favorite McCain closed the deal with this one.

Early on in the questioning, Warren asked each man, “What…would be the greatest moral failure in your life, and what would be the greatest moral failure of America?” Obama answered that he drank and “experimented” with drugs as a teenager, which he attributed to his own selfishness. McCain, on the other hand, said, “The failure of my first marriage. It’s my greatest moral failure.”

Limbaugh's theory on why Edwards strayed

On the August 12 broadcast of his nationally syndicated radio show, Rush Limbaugh said of former Sen. John Edwards' recent disclosure of an extramarital affair: "I've got a theory about the motivations. Well, I don't know that I could -- I don't know that I can put this one on the air."

Discussing his "theory," Limbaugh said, "We know -- we've been told that Elizabeth Edwards is smarter than John Edwards. That's part of the puff pieces on them that we've seen. Ergo, if Elizabeth Edwards is smarter than John Edwards, is it likely that she thinks she knows better than he does what his speeches ought to contain and what kind of things he ought to be doing strategy-wise in the campaign? If she is smarter than he is, could it have been her decision to keep going with the campaign? In other words, could it be that she doesn't shut up? Now, that's as far as I'm going to go." Limbaugh later added

"It just seems to me that Edwards might be attracted to a woman whose mouth did something other than talk." Limbaugh went on to say in a subsequent segment: "my theory that I just explained to you about why -- you know, what could have John Edwards' motivations been to have the affair with Rielle Hunter, given his wife is smarter than he is and probably nagging him a lot about doing this, and he found somebody that did something with her mouth other than talk."

McCain's Abortion Remark Stuns Base

Top social conservative leaders in key battleground states are urging John McCain not to pick a running mate who supports abortion rights, warning of dire consequences from a Republican base already unenthused about their nominee.

McCain’s comments Wednesday to the Weekly Standard’s Stephen Hayes that former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge’s pro-abortion rights views wouldn’t necessarily rule him out quickly found their way into the in-boxes of Christian conservatives. For those who have been anxiously awaiting McCain’s pick as a signal of his ideological intentions, there was deep concern that their worst fears about the Arizona senator may be realized.

I polled the Q Nation on-air this morning. They overwhelmingly said they'd support McCain even with a pro-abort like Ridge as the VP, only 4 callers said no.

Housing Authority OKs complex for mentally ill

After hearing nearly two hours of public comments for and against a planned residential development for people who are mentally ill, the Tulsa Housing Authority on Tuesday approving building the facility.

The building will be at 10 S. Yale and will include more than 70 small apartments. It will be operated by the Mental Health Association as part of the Building Tulsa Building Lives program, which aims to eliminate chronic homelessness in Tulsa. The meeting was filled to capacity and was interrupted several times by shouting and applause. We will be talking about the Video that was made of Hillary in Palo Alto on July 30th when she said that she wanted, “We will come out stronger if people feel that their voices were heard and their views were respected.” She also goes onto remind her supporters that they don’t need her permission to place her name in nomination, and even suggests that having her name submitted for nomination would go a long way to quelling hurt feelings among her supporters.

So the question is…What does Hillary want?

* Is she angling for an appointment?

* Some Democrats are worried that Obama hasn’t leapfrogged McCain in the polls. Is Hillary looking to be able to point at her party and say “I told you so” if Obama loses?

* Is she secretly endorsing a coup on the convention floor, while publicly backing Obama, in order to preserve her reputation?

* Is Obama worried about this? Should he be?

It is being reported today that Nicholas Kristof of the New York Times has in his possession a tape recording of an interview he once had with Barack Obama that may be very damaging to the latter’s campaign for the presidency.

The tape (and the transcript of it) stem from a February 27, 2007 visit Kristof paid to Obama’s senate offices. A column Kristof wrote based upon this interview appeared in the New York Times on March 6, 2007.

In a column he wrote this week about Obama which was published on Tuesday, Kristof once again refers to this earlier interview. Also, he has subsequently seemed to say that his editors have reviewed it in its entirety.

What may be damning about the interview, the transcript of it and—especially—the original tape recording is that Obama allegedly provided Kristof with a recitation from memory of the Muslim call to prayer in Arabic. One of Obama’s cousins in Africa has stated in the recent past that Obama was, indeed, once a Muslim. Kristof’s interview records may prove this more definitively.

Obama lived in Indonesia until he was about ten years old. He attended a Catholic school there but was allegedly enrolled as a student of the Muslim faith. Popular psychologists have maintained for decades that what happens to children during their tenth year of life stays with them most strongly for as long as they live. Obama has admitted in one of his best-selling books that he remembers vividly hearing Muslim calls to prayer when he was growing up in Southeast Asia. But what does it mean if he remembers the call in its entirety in a language, Arabic, foreign to both Americans and Indonesians?

The issue is not whether Obama was ever a Muslim. Who could blame him if his elders exposed him to Muslim influences and even mosque attendance in the largest Islamic country in the world, Indonesia, as a child? What Kristof may, however, have raised as an issue once again—and, this time, in spades—is Obama’s inability and/or unwillingness to tell us the truth about his past in Southeast Asia, Chicago or anywhere else.

Water park's rent paid

Tulsa County officials on Thursday received past-due rent from Big Splash Water Park, thus ending a silent standoff between the fair board and the water park.

Big Splash owner Loretta Murphy delivered the past due payment in-person to the Tulsa County Public Facilities Authority, said Mark Andrus, interim CEO of Expo Square.

Murphy paid $130,657, which represents the entire rental amount owed to the fair board for 2007. The rent was due Oct. 15.

Iraq to award oil contracts to foreign firms

BAGHDAD (AFP) — Iraq will award contracts to 41 foreign oil firms in a bid to boost production that could give multinationals a potentially lucrative foothold in huge but underdeveloped oil fields, an official said on Sunday.

"We chose 35 companies of international standard, according to their finances, environment and experience, and we granted them permission to extract oil," oil ministry spokesman Asim Jihad told AFP.

Six other state-owned oil firms from Algeria, Angola, Pakistan, Thailand, Turkey and Vietnam will also be awarded extraction deals, Jihad said.

President Bush is honoring a retired Marine General who came under attack from radical homosexual groups for calling that lifestyle immoral. Pro-homosexual groups, notes one veteran observer, are "going nuclear" about the award.

President Bush has honored General Peter Pace with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian award- and Elaine Donnelly of the Center for Military Readiness says the award is richly deserved.

In May 2007, Pace told the Chicago Tribune: "I believe homosexual acts between two individuals are immoral and that we should not condone immoral acts, including adultery." That upset groups like the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network and Parents and Friends of Lesbians And Gays.

"The ensuing criticism caused him to forego another term as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, but President George Bush has chosen to honor him with this special award," says Donnelly. "Now we have two homosexual activist groups going nuclear, using nasty epithets aimed at the general ...."

She says the reaction of the two groups demonstrates that they -- not General Pace -- are intolerant. "The reaction of these two groups, in my opinion, is disrespectful to millions of people who do not share their views," chides Donnelly. "These groups claim to advocate tolerance, but the attitude of the [LGBT individuals] ... take intolerance to an extreme."

Donnelly commends President Bush for not being afraid to honor a man who publicly stood for morality in the face of such criticism.

Man Accused Of Molesting A Child While In Prison

The Oklahoma Department of Corrections responded Friday to allegations of molestation reports from the Joseph Harp Correctional Center. According to reports, a convicted sex offender serving a life sentence, was caught molesting his daughter during a prison visit by the child.

News On 6 reporter Dave Jordan reports Eugene Bond, the 43-year-old accused inmate, allegedly fondled his 8-year-old daughter. The prison guards were oblivious to the situation until another visitor spoke up.

"The wife of another inmate who was there visiting advised up that something inappropriate was going on," DOC spokesperson Jerry Massie said.

Bond's criminal record included at least three rape and lewd act convictions on his record.

Somebody dropped the ball. The Judge should have placed restrictions on visitation, the DA should have demanded it.

A majority of the members of the United States Supreme Court have shown themselves unable to distinguish between an existential military struggle — quite literally, a war over the very existence of western civilization — and ordinary street crime committed by U.S. residents wholly within America. The obvious and inevitable consequence of today's Supreme Court decision will be that terrorist killers presently in captivity, captured at the cost of American soldiers' lives and limbs, will be released instead of punished, and they will return to killing both Americans and others again.

Make no mistake about it: This was a naked, arrogant power grab of wartime, war-fighting power by the liberal wing of the Supreme Court. This is Anthony Kennedy, John Paul Stevens, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, David Souter, and Stephen Breyer doing their dead-level best — not to protect you and me from the terrorists, but to protect the terrorists — and to prevent Congress and the president from protecting you and me!

Malik Obama confirms his half-brother Barack grew up a Muslim

Apparently the Obamas of Kenya have been reading those scurrilous emails to which Barack likes to refer, because they have no doubt -- contrary to the claims of the Obama campaign, that the presidential candidate was raised a Moslem. They take that as a given.

As the Jerusalem Post reports, "Barack Obama's half brother Malik said Thursday that if elected his brother will be a good president for the Jewish people, despite his Muslim background. In an interview with Army Radio he expressed a special salutation from the Obamas of Kenya."

The Obama brothers' father, a senior economist for the Kenyan government who studied at Harvard University, died in car crash in 1982. He left six sons and a daughter. All of his children - except Malik -- live in Britain or the United States. Malik and Barack met in 1985.

In a remarkable denial issued last November that still stands on the official campaign website, Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs issued a statement explaining that "Senator Obama has never been a Muslim, was not raised as a Muslim, and is a committed Christian."

Apparently Malik Obama, himself a Muslim, had not read the press release.

Melanie Phillips is the most recent commentator to draw attention to the massive body of evidence that leaves no doubt that Barak Hussein Obama was born a Muslim (Islam is patrilineal) and raised a Muslim (so registered in school, acknowledging attending Islamic classes, reported accompanying his step-father to the mosque, and able to recite the Koran in the original Arabic).

Reuven Koret, Aaron Klein and Daniel Pipes have previously pointed to the attempts by Obama and his campaign to conceal the candidate's Muslim background. The well documented evidence draws upon the on-the-ground interviews by researchers in Indonesia and Kenya, published quotations of Obama's childhood friends and his school records, as well as the candidate's own autobiography.

Hundreds salute soldier

STILLWATER — Hundreds of people holding American flags lined the streets of Stillwater for more than five miles Friday as the funeral procession of Army Reserve Maj. Scott Allen Hagerty passed by them.

Hagerty, 41, of Stillwater, was killed June 3 while serving in Zormat, Afghanistan, when a roadside bomb exploded near his military vehicle during a patrol, the Department of Defense said.

About 1,000 people attended his funeral Friday in the First United Methodist Church, where Hagerty was remembered as a peacemaker who touched countless lives.

"He was going to do what was right no matter what. He had a soldier's heart. It immediately cries out, 'If you're going to send someone, send me,' " Army Master Sgt. Charles Smith said.

Army Command Sgt. Maj. Steve Roberts said Hagerty "was a guy whose actions spoke louder than words.

"He was doing exactly what he wanted to do. He truly loved soldiers, trusted soldiers.

"Selfless sacrifice — that's Scott in a nutshell," Roberts said.

Maj. Hagerty leaves behind a wife Daphne and sons Jonathan (age 10) and Samuel (20 months).

"There are few issues that are more important than learning about diversity," Johnson said Tuesday at the Tulsa Press Club during a speech on increasing diversity in the workforce and improving race relations in Oklahoma.

The Press Club, a collective of print and broadcast journalists that started more than 75 years ago, regularly invites guests to speak at the club's downtown location.

ABC News' Teddy Davis and John Santucci Report: Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland (D) was Shermanesque on Tuesday in saying that he would "absolutely not" be Sen. Barack Obama's, D-Ill., running mate even if asked to join the Democratic ticket.

Asked on NPR's "All Things Considered" if he is auditioning to be Obama's running mate, Strickland said, "Absolutely not. If drafted I will not run, nominated I will not accept and if elected I will not serve.

So, I don’t know how more crystal clear I can be."

Strickland was seen by some political handicappers as an attractive vice presidential pick for Obama because he is a popular chief executive and former House member who hails from Ohio, the state which decided the 2004 election.

Here's what's known so far:

The Michelle Obama Rant Tape was filmed between June 26th - July 1st 2004 in Chicago, IL at the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition Conference at Trinity United Church: specifically the Women's Event.

Michelle Obama appeared as a panelist alongside Mrs. Khadijah Farrakhan and Mrs. James Meeks.

Bill Clinton spoke during the Conference, as did Bill Cosby and other speakers, but not at the panel Michelle attended.

Michelle Obama spoke at the Women's Event, but referenced Bill Clinton in her rant --- his presence at the conference was the impetus for her raving, it seems.

For about 30 minutes, Michelle Obama launched into a rant about the evils of America, and how America is to blame for the problems of Africa. Michelle personally blamed President Clinton for the deaths of millions of Africans and said America is responsible for the genocide of the Tutsis and other ethnic groups. She then launched into an attack on "whitey", and talked about solutions to black on black crime in the realm of diverting those actions onto white America. Her rant was fueled by the crowd: they reacted strongly to what she said, so she got more passionate and enraged, and that's when she completely loses it and says things that have made the mouths drop of everyone who's seen this.

The "tape" is a DVD that Trinity United sold on its website, and possibly offered free for download up until March 2008 when Trinity's site was scrubbed and the DVDs were no longer offered for sale.

This outburst happened just one month before the 2004 Democratic Convention, when Barack Obama delivered the keynote address.

UPDATED: It seems really easy for Chicago local media, especially, to determine whether or not this is the right tape of Michelle Obama. All they need to do is pull the tape from this 2004 Conference (particularly the panel Michelle was on), which should be readily available (since this was a very large multi-day event). All a journalist needs to do is watch this tape: if this is not the right one, they'd know immediately and this issue would be debunked. But, logically, this seems to be the most likely source of the tape people have been talking about at NoQuarterUSA.net

Oklahoma's unemployment rate, which was a seasonally adjusted 4.3% and 4.4%, respectively, in September and October 2007 (4.1% and 4.2% unadjusted), has fallen to a seasonally adjusted 3.1% in both February and March of this year (3.5% and 3.2% unadjusted).

The unemployment rate in most states has gone up from September 2007 to March 2008. In states where the rate has gone down, none has shown an improvement like that seen in the Sooner State -- not even close.

Why is that?

What has happened in Oklahoma that hasn't happened elsewhere?

Well, one thing Oklahoma did last year was to pass an enforcement-focused immigration reform law.

It did so in May, and it took effect in November. Here is how One News Now described the bill at the time it was signed by the state's governor (original link no longer available):

House Bill 1804 was passed by overwhelming majorities in both the House and Senate of the Oklahoma Legislature. The measure’s sponsor, State Representative Randy Terrill, says the bill has four main topical areas: it deals with identity theft; it terminates public assistance benefits to illegals; it empowers state and local police to enforce federal immigration laws; and it punishes employers who knowingly hire illegal aliens.

Oklahoma is no longer “O.K.” for illegal aliens, Terrill observes. “When you put everything together in context,” he contends, “the bottom line is illegal aliens will not come here if there are no jobs waiting for them, they will not stay here if there is no government subsidy, and they certainly won’t stay here if they know that if they ever encounter our state and local law enforcement officers, they will be physically detained until they’re deported. And that’s exactly what House Bill 1804 does.”

The Oklahoma legislator is pleased the bill he sponsored into law was signed by Governor Henry and believes it will go a long way to curb the illegal immigration problem in the state.

It seems reasonable to ask if the law has accomplished the intended curbing of illegal immigration. This January 9 USA Today article by Emily Bazar ("Strict immigration law rattles Okla. businesses") indicates that it has -- not that Bazar thinks that this is a good thing.

The next question to ask would be whether citizens have taken jobs that illegals used to do. Though the lower unemployment rate doesn't in and of itself prove that, it does point strongly in that direction.

The sparse coverage of the improving employment situation in the state has received sparse coverage, and the only two relevant stories I found (here and here) did not attempt to explain why it's happening.

Will anyone in Old Media dig more deeply into the Sooner State's situation? Or will they try to pretend that Oklahoma's improvement doesn't exist, because finding out why might expose some inconvenient truths, and hurt the cause of illegal-immigrant "amnesty"?

Dying Professor's Last Lecture

Many of you have probably heard of Randy Pausch, the Carnegie-Mellon professor who has terminal pancreatic cancer. He gave his “last lecture” back in September to a packed audience at the university. His words are truly inspiring.

I don’t know if anyone saw this interview with Diane Sawyer last evening but the hour long special is well worth watching. Everyone should also watch this professor’s last lecture which is available on the same page. My Daddy Was Killed In Iraq

Kevin Bewley gave his life for his country on November 5, 2007. A member of the Navy’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit 11, Petty Officer Bewley died trying to save lives by disabling an explosive, and unfortunately lost his life in the process. Bewley’s family has set up a web site and a trust fund for his daughter McKinnzie, and they’re looking for donations. Here is the eulogy Bewley’s brother gave at his memorial:

My brother Kevin Bewley was born April 18, 1980, in Russellville,
Arkansas. Kevin had a lifelong dream of joining the military, seeing the world and making an impact on the lives of others.

He was a lifelong student of history. While on his first tour of duty, he completed Civil War, and American West history courses at Columbia. He spent two tours of duty in Iraq as a member of the Navy’s elite EOD Mobile Unit 11 Bomb Disposal Squad. During this time, Kevin and his team conducted 288 Combat missions and countless IED responses.

While in service, Kevin was responsible for the disposal of hundreds of terrorist bombs through which he protected thousands of American and Iraqi lives. He loved adventure and the outdoors. I had the privilege to travel tens of thousands of miles with Kevin. Our trips took us from the desert to the artic, and from the bottoms of the oceans to the tops of mountains.

Whether it was thru his service in Iraq, always being the first to volunteer for Snake Hunter missions, or simply thru his honesty, integrity, and spirituality, my brother led by example and he led from the front.

He did his job with professionalism and he did his job right all the way to the end. He lived his life with no regrets. For those of you who have came to honor him, we thank you.

Rest well, for men like Kevin Bewley are at your guard.

McKinnzie suffers from cerebral palsy and needs physical therapy to help her learn to walk. Kevin Bewley gave his life to his country; maybe his country could give some of its attention to his little girl. Donations can be transmitted through the website or through the Navy.

Study: Immigrants keeping American Catholic Church afloat

The infusion of newcomers, especially Spanish-speaking immigrants, has kept the American Catholic Church from joining other mainline denominations in dramatic decline, according to a study released today by the Pew Forum on Religion & American Life.

"While nearly one-in-three Americans (31%) were raised in the Catholic faith, today fewer than one-in-four (24%) describe themselves as Catholic. These losses would have been even more pronounced were it not for the offsetting impact of immigration," the report noted.

Pew's U.S. Religious Landscape Survey, which polled 35,000 American adults, also found that the U.S. is on the verge of becoming a minority Protestant country, or barely 51 percent. However, the nation is still an overwhelmingly Christian nation, with 78.4 percent.

This confirms something I've been saying on my show for quite some time. It also explains why the U.S. Catholic Bishops have taken such a liberal stance on illegal immigration. I'm sure we've all heard the old adage "Don't bite the hand that feeds you". Nuff said!

According to the survey, Latinos already account for roughly one in three adult Catholics overall and may account for an even larger share of U.S. Catholics in the future.

Harve Alan, has posted the video of Jim Cramer commenting on the business of radio this week on Wall Street Confidential on TheStreet.com.

From the opening introduction by host Farnoosh Torabi, including the words “Radio…maybe a dying medium” to Cramer’s defining, comment of “Radio is over as we know it.” Clearly, this is not a PR video from the NAB. However, it is completely true. What Cramer says in this video is exactly what is going on.

Napoleon Hill on The Science of Success

Think and Grow Rich! (ISBN 1-59330-200-2) is a classic motivational book. Written by Napoleon Hill and inspired by Andrew Carnegie, it was published in 1937 at the end of the Great Depression. In 1960, Hill published an abridged version of the book, which for years was the only one generally available. In 2004, Ross Cornwell published Think and Grow Rich!: The Original Version, Restored and Revised (Second Printing 2007), which restored the book to its original content, with slight revisions, and added the first comprehensive endnotes, index, and appendix the book had ever contained.

The text of Think and Grow Rich! is founded on Hill's earlier work, The Law of Success, the result of more than twenty years of research based on Hill's close association with a large number of individuals who achieved great wealth during their lifetimes.

This is how much Europe is changing. Dutch Catholics have decided that they need to re-name the Lent fast. So they've decided to name Lent the "Christian Ramadan." And why have they felt the need to put Lent into Islamic terms? Because young people in their country are more likely to know about Islam than Christianity.

The Catholic organizers hope that by linking the Muslim festival of Ramadan they can remind Christians of the "spirituality and sobriety" of Lent, for those Christians who may be less observant than Muslims.

A reader asked me to check into information that President Bush was pushing a massive foreign-aid package to Mexico to help them secure their southern border against the flow of illegal aliens from Central America.

“We can’t even get our own border straight, and we are going to provide Mexico with funding so they can solve their problem,” the reader fumed. “I doubt the Central Americans are staying very long in Mexico anyway. We know where they are going!”

Too outrageously outrageous to be true?

Well, I checked it out and it’s even worse than the reader described. Far worse.

The plan is called “The Merida Initiative.” Seems that the White House has had this plan in the works for nearly a year with little congressional input on either side of the border.

We can’t finish our own border fence, properly supply our immigration agents and border patrol with all the equipment and resources they need, or get our house in order. Yet, the Bush administration wants to fork over $1.4 billion to Mexico and Central America–with much of it going into the hands of corrupt law enforcement officials and government bureaucrats who have worked tirelessly to undermine our immigration laws. The funding is tucked into the 2008 supplemental budget.

Planned Parenthood Closes Pro-Abortion Businesses in Five States

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The nation’s largest abortion business has closed facilities in five states, including two locations in Illinois, one and Idaho and merging two in Kentucky. The abortion business claims the closures are the result of a lack of funding in the way of taxpayer dollars, even though the business maintains millions in the bank and makes money on an annual basis.

According to STOPP International, a watchdog group, Planned Parenthood closed an express clinic in Nampa, Idaho, an express clinic in Naperville, Illinois, and a non-express clinic in Lincoln, Illinois.

It has also closed or merged centers in Ohio and Michigan in recent weeks.

Orlando radio talk show host Pat Campbell had the chance to interview former DNC chairman Terry McAuliffe and current failure who is now working on Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign. Pat immediately pressed Terry, who claims to be a Catholic, but is very pro-abortion. The best part of the interview, though, was Pat trying to get to the bottom of a land deal where McAuliffe invested $100 and got back $2.45 million.

Byron York writes:
In one deal, McAuliffe and the fund officials created a partnership to buy a large block of commercial real estate in Florida. McAuliffe put up $100 for the purchase, while the pension fund put up $39 million. Yet McAuliffe got a 50-percent interest in the deal; he eventually walked away with $2.45 million from his original $100 investment. In another instance, the pension fund loaned McAuliffe more than $6 million for a real-estate development, only to find that McAuliffe was unable to make payments for nearly five years. In the end, the pension fund lost some of its money, McAuliffe moved on to his next deal, and fund officials found themselves facing the Labor Department’s questions.

I was reading an article by Charles Staley the other day. He's a highly sought after coach/trainer that works with elite professional and olympian athletes. I found this section to be very interesting.

First, here are 5 "philosophical" paradigms for success– what I consider to be better ways to think and to evaluate information:

1. The majority Is ALWAYS wrong, therefore DO THE OPPOSITE.

I consider this idea to be my central operating paradigm in life, and rarely have I found it to not be the case. Even if you apply this concept absolutely, across the board, without critical thought, to every aspect of your life, you'll end up better off.

Here are but a few examples:

— The majority of people have no goals. Therefore, establish goals for yourself.

— The majority of people don't train. Therefore, train.

— The majority of people think that seeing their doctor regularly is essential for optimal health. HAVING GOOD HEALTH HABITS is essential for optimal health.

—The majority of people don't plan for their future, and end up unprepared for their retirement. Therefore, prepare for your future.

—The majority of people watch TV for several hours per day. Therefore, don't watch TV.

—The majority of people spend many hours per day in a seated position. Therefore, spend more time on your feet.

—The majority of people don't read. You're reading now—good for you.

The Carrot, Egg and Coffee Parable

The Carrot, the Egg, and Coffee

The carrot, the egg and coffee grounds were to face adversity in the form of boiling water for a specified time period. The carrot before facing the adversity of the water, was strong, vibrant, and colourful. That was its basic nature. After facing and trying to resist the adversity of the boiling water the carrot came out, dull, soft, limp. Its basic nature had been changed, but the adversity of the water remained undaunted and clearly the victor.

The egg before being beset with the adversity of the boiling water seemed symmetrical, whole, and complete in its hard shell protecting its inner liquid nature, its real self. Upon facing the adversity of the water the egg also tried to resist. The boiling water was unrelenting. The adversity was too much. The symmetry of the outer shell was now easily cracked, easily broken. What it attempted to protect had become hard, different, no longer fluid and liquid. Its basic nature had been altered by adversity.

Yet the boiling water remained undaunted, still the adversary, still the victor, still unchanged.

The coffee went in to the boiling water but something was now different. Instead of attempting to resist or avoid the water, the coffee embraced it. By embracing the water and its adversity something interesting happened. The nature of the coffee indeed changed. But it was enhanced. The coffee by embracing the adversity became something greater than it was, and for the first time, it was the boiling water that changed from being embraced rather than resisted.

The adversity of the water became part of the new form of what coffee, had “transformed” into. The coffee, unlike the carrot or the egg, embraced the adversity and by so doing, altered the adversity itself, to a more complete version of itself.

The coffee was improved by not only facing the adversity of the water, but by embracing it!

There are so many life lessons to this parable. I should think most are obvious.

Assuming there is no shocking revelation or health issue, the GOP nomination is over. Conservatives need to start practicing the phrase "Nominee presumptive John McCa....."

Sorry, I can't say it. Not yet.

But it's true. When the campaign comes here to Massachusetts on February 5th, I'll proudly cast my vote for any option on the GOP ballot other than You-Know-Who, up to and including Ron Paul. But it will be a futile gesture. Mr. "1/3rd Of The GOP Primary Vote"--who lost among Republican voters again in Florida--is going to be the Republican nominee.

He's going to win the big, left-leaning states on Tuesday. Huckabee will campaign in the midwestern and southern states, denying Romney the one-on-one contest for GOP voters that Captain Amnesty would almost certainly lose. The result: More wins on February 5th for He Who Must Not Be Named, and fewer wins for Romney.

Forget delegate count. Florida has launched the one ship that Romney's money and Rush Limbaugh cannot stop: The U.S.S. Inevitable. It's gonna happen. Even if there were a realistic pathway to stop him, the media have seized control of the process now and are declaring him inevitable. Every win he gets on February 5th will be magnified by the media, every loss marginalized.

He is, after all, the favorite Republican of the New York Times.

So it is over. Finished. In November, Republicans will be sending their most liberal, least trustworthy candidate to take on Hillary Clinton--perhaps not more liberal than Barack Obama, but certainly far less trustworthy.

And the worst part for the Right is that McCain will have won the nomination while ignoring, insulting and, as of this weekend, shamelessly lying about conservatives and conservatism.

You think he supported amnesty six months ago? You think he was squishy on tax cuts and judicial nominees before? Wait until he has the power to anger every conservative in America, and feel good about it.

Every day, he dreams of a world filled with happy Democrats and insulted Republicans. And he is, thanks to Florida, the presidential nominee of the Republican Party.

And on that note, I'm off to climb into a bottle of Bushmill's.

Thanks to those geniuses in Florida, it's going to be a LONG nine months.

Tuesday night, I took a break from cleaning out my desk to attend an event with some young conservatives. About 9 p.m., one guy checked his Blackberry to see the Florida results, and the reaction -- I said they were conservatives, didn't I? -- was disappointment at the news that Crazy Cousin John had narrowly edged Mitt Romney in the winner-take-all primary.

The next reaction was equally predictable: "Oh, McCain's got momentum ... going to be hard for Romney to recover by Super Tuesday" etc., etc.

In other words, despair and defeatism, an acceptance of what The Experts have said would be the inevitable consequences of this event.

Don't quit, boys. For God's sake, don't ever quit. So long as there is room for hope, so long as victory is a possibility, so long as you have strength for the fight, you owe it to yourself to keep hoping and keep fighting.

Hope and courage must always go hand-in-hand. If you will spread hope and encouragement in this dark hour of disappointment, you will do more for your candidate than you know.

"Look," I said to my young friends, "starting Wednesday at noon, Rush Limbaugh is going to pull out all the stops. He's going to hammer McCain with everything he's got. He's going to come at him from every angle, for three solid hours, and then he's going to do it for another three hours on Thursday, then Friday, then Monday, then Tuesday. You can count on 15 hours of Rush doing all he can to persuade conservatives not to vote for McCain, and that's got to have some effect. Romney made it close in Florida, and a week is forever in politics. ...."

Et cetera. There is room for hope, and therefore there is no room for despair.

Listen up, Romneyites: You've got Rush Limbaugh on your side, and that's the kind of message-power that no other candidate can match. Rush spent a couple weeks on a Stop Huckabee jag, and then he spent a couple of weeks messing around with the whole Obama-Hillary matchup. But that's over now.

It's a dark, dark day in Florida politics. What have you done? What were you thinking? I must admit I grossly underestimated the gullibility of some republicans to be swayed by polls and endorsements. I also did not fully understand just how deep religious bigotry and intolerance goes in the Sunshine State when it comes to Mormons. There are winners and losers in last night's debacle. You celebrate a victory if you are an illegal alien, a R.I.N.O. or a liberal. It's a sad, sad day if you are a true conservative because the base of your party has sold their soul. To some,victory(i.e. beating Hillary) is more important than principal. I have to imagine that if Ronald Reagan were alive today there would be a tear running down his cheek.

I had to laugh last night as I watched Mel Martinez talk about John McCain being a man of honor. I wanted to ask Mel "what was honorable about committing adultery on your wife and dumping her after she was involved in a car accident and put on a little weight?" For your consideration. I saw this posted on another message board today. I thought it worthy of your attention.

The question of the age in the 1930’s was not the economy, nor abortion, nor supreme court justices. It was Nazism and its potential to overturn the very fabric of society. We did not need a Neville Chamberlain then, we needed a Winston Churchill. The question of our age is likewise not the economy, abortion, or supreme court justices. The question of the next 20 years is Militant Islam, the global jihad, the potential loss of Europe to its Muslim cultural jihad, and the entrance of nuclear terrorism. Today, we need another Churchill, another Reagan, to answer the forces arrayed against our national security. Rudy is the only candidate who has come face-to-face with the jihad and its ruthlessness. He, I believe, is the only candidate who is truly determined to defeat Islamic jihadism. It is critical we have a president who is of this mindset if our children and grandchildren are to live in a world without fear. Rudy will not let us down. -Paul Newcombe
